My name is Anna Long-Stokes and I enjoy working with clients who are ready to turn inwards and find clarity.

Clarity may look like:

  • Getting clear on the actions, thoughts, patterns and people that are no longer serving you (and what do to about it)

  • Getting clear on your life path and what steps you’re ready to take to live the life you know (on some deep level) that you came here to live.

  • Getting clear on your values and how these values feed into your overall sense of purpose and well-being.

  • Getting clear on what emotions and energies are no longer serving you and how to move through them and beyond them to find more inner peace.

My clients are are typically seeking some type of change and they want a comfortable space to turn to help them process as they take steps towards creating these changes. Essentially, they want a friendly partner as they grow and evolve…someone to bounce ideas off of, someone who won’t judge, but who also help them reflect in a healthy way on what’s working, what’s not and what can be done to change that.

Because let’s be honest…your friends and family (while good intentioned, may not be the best sounding board anymore)

My approach:

My approach to therapy is multi-faceted and takes the mind, body and energy into account.

My mental health counseling services are grounded in Acceptance and Commitment therapy (a form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy). ACT is a type of psychotherapy that helps people accept what’s out of their control and commit to actions that improve their lives, based on their core values. This form of therapy embraces mindfulness practices and encourages clients to become more aware their “noticing self”, helping to separate more fully from the unhelpful stories created and played on “repeat” by our mind.

Over time I’ve found that many psychotherapy models are limited to what we already know on a conscious level. The reality is that many habits and behaviors are programmed at a more subconscious level. So while we may be aware of what isn’t working for us, we feel unable to change the part of ourselves that is no longer working in our favor. At times like this, I find it helpful to blend in hypnotherapy and more energy-informed practices that support clients in changing at a level beyond the conscious/mental level.

Clients can book stand-alone energy-informed healing sessions and hypnotherapy sessions or can work with me for more traditional therapy where we will customize a plan to your treatment over the course of our sessions together.

  • Transparent

    Therapy works best when we’re transparent and open with one another and this can only been done in a safe (held) space. My clients have reflected back to me for years that this is their favorite part of working with me.

  • Body-Energy Informed

    Your body and your energy hold within them a lot of useful information about what’s working, what’s not and what you’re ready to do about that. I’m an expert guide at helping clients navigate body-energy communication to create change on a deep level.

  • Compassionate

    In this Held space, I’m not here to judge you, your past or your goals. I’m here to hold a safe space for you to process what you’re ready to release and what steps you’re ready to take on your individual growth path.

Meet Anna

My first experience with therapy was…terrible. I was 13, super angry and my mom “made me do it!” I’m not sure if I feel worse for me or my therapist, but I know that it wasn’t a good fit.

In fact, I had no plans of EVER becoming a therapist in spite of ALL the signs pointing towards this being a pretty great career fit for me. But life has a funny way of bringing you what you need, even if it wasn’t what you thought you wanted. After receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, I was offered a full ride scholarship to the University of Illinois at Chicago for my master’s degree. That was in 2005 and I graduated in 2006.

For many years I felt intensive conflict between “traditional” therapy and what actually worked for me as a more empathic, sensitive soul. For many years I decided to leave the field because I felt there was little room for any approaches that weren’t top-down (i.e. focus on healing only through using the mind and cognitions).

For over 15 years I explored various healing modalities ranging from Chinese Medicine & nutrition to reiki healing, meditation and clairvoyance. After many years of searching, I landed on an approach to energy, healing and mental health therapy that works best for me and that seems to work great for my clients as well.

In 2022 I began teaching fellow empaths, energy-sensitives and intuitives’ how to further their understanding and development of their energy and healing capabilities at Empathic Energy Method and I fuse my various methods into my work with clients.

Are we a fit?

  • You appreciate compassion, but desire transparency and straight-talk. Things getting awkward?? Let’s address it!

  • You want a HELD space and a sounding board, but you also want someone who will (lovingly) call you on the actions and patterns that are preventing you from achieving your goals.

  • You understand that “talking” is only one part of therapy and are open to tapping into other (more energetic)/subconscious approaches to change.

  • You see therapy as something for “right now”, but maybe not “forever”. Most of my clients are moving through transition and see me regularly until they are ready to step out on their own and move into much less frequent visits. I encourage this level of growth and autonomy.

  • You’re open and ready to do the inner work (even when it feels hard) and you don’t expect “perfect” results after a few sessions. You understand that change does (and likely will) take time.

How do we get started?

  1. Book a Consultation call. During this call, we can determine which session type will be a good starting point for you. Hypnotherapy can be good for individuals who have had a basis in traditional therapy and are ready to work in deeper layers of the subconscious.

  2. After our consultation call, we can determine if it feels like a good therapeutic fit. If not, there is absolutely no hard feelings and I can try to recommend you to a colleague who might be a better fit.

  3. Book your first call. During our first session we will set up treatment goals and set a foundation for our work together. You will be asked to fill out a few forms electronically before this session takes place.
